Sex Offender Reentry: Sex Offender Management in Tribal Communities

SESSION INFO

Tuesday, July 31, 2018
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Session Type: Workshop

Due to jurisdictional factors, tribal communities often face special challenges when offenders are released from incarceration and begin the reentry process. All too often there will be gaps in information sharing and communication between facilities and communities. This hampers the ability of a Nation/Village to plan reentry services for the releasee, families, and victims—and it can even impede efforts to ensure victim safety. Nations/Villages must be equipped with tools and resources to develop realistic, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate reentry strategies designed to meet the needs of their people. The goal of this workshop is to go over available tools and highlight the ways in which tribal communities are working to increase their effectiveness in managing sex offenders as part of the reentry process.
