Session Type: Workshop

Organizational change is exciting and challenging. However, it entails undertaking large scale education of staff in an environment conducive to learning, helping staff members feel comfortable with new concepts, and ensuring that they truly understand how to incorporate these concepts in supervision. Maricopa County Adult Probation Department (MCAPD) had a first-hand lesson in how to carry out organizational change during a recent project aimed at training staff in risk reduction supervision techniques. Large training groups were utilized, and the training was based on foundation material that was delivered over the course of several months. While this method effectively provided our numerous personnel with foundational information, many staff members needed additional assistance to incorporate the material into daily practice. MCAPD therefore developed Learning Teams that helped break down the core information to show how and when it can be incorporated. In this workshop, the presenters will discuss our experience during this project, with particular focus on the concept of MCAPD’s Learning Teams and the benefits they have brought to our agency.
