Session Type: Workshop

In this session staff from the Bureau of Justice Statistics will describe the next steps in their efforts to enhance the quality of the Annual Survey of Probation, which is an interesting and valuable resource for researchers and all those working in this field. They will go over updates to a frame expansion effort that began in 2016 and provide a summary of revisions to the Annual Probation Survey taking place during the current year. Next, they will present information from the Census of Adult Probation Supervising Agencies (CAPSA), a large-scale data collection initiative carried out in 2014-2015--the first of its kind in many years. They will describe the first CAPSA STATISTICAL REPORT AS WELL AS PLANS FOR FUTURE REPORTS. In addition, the presentation will touch on some administration and data quality issues and results. Attendees will gain an appreciation of the progress that is being made as well as the challenges still faced by those who are trying to fill in the gaps in our knowledge.
