Justice-Involved Women: What's New, What's Not

SESSION INFO

Wednesday, August 1, 2018
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
Session Type: Workshop

Of the justice-involved women who confined to prison, jails, or residential programs, approximately 75% are custodial parents of minor children at the time of their separation. These women face unique challenges upon reentry into their communities. Reunification efforts with small children, finances, and housing are just a few of the dynamics that may increase the likelihood of recidivism. As practitioners in the criminal justice field, the presenters in this workshop offer a meaningful discussion regarding formal and informal pro-social networks to improve outcomes for such women, including those who are opioid dependent and/or experience mental health problems.
