Breaking the Stigma: Understanding Compassion Fatigue and Vicarious Trauma

This workshop focuses on the mental health of staff who are exposed to trauma on a regular basis. The presenters will define and review different forms of occupational stress injuries, various risk factors, the mental health continuum, and, importantly, steps that can be taken to build resiliency. This presentation is dynamic and interactive and will allow participants an opportunity to engage in their learning experience, with questionnaires provided that center around quality of life and professional satisfaction. Organizational strategies that can assist trauma-exposed staff will also be emphasized.

Lambia Karitsiotis
Director of Training Information, Global Resource Epicenter Against Trafficking


Lambia Karitsiotis is a Certified Trauma Educator and Field Traumatologist and is the Director of Training Information with the Global Resource Epicentre Against Human Trafficking. Lambia has over 15 years working in community corrections and over 12 years working directly with community policing initiatives.


Sheila Tallon
Psychotherapist, Tallon and Associates


Sheila Tallon is the manager of a busy victim and witness protection office and is a psychotherapist specializing in both individualized and agency care. With a combined over 30 years of experience working in the criminal justice system, they have both gained expertise in the area of mental health care for staff.
