SESSION INFO

Tuesday, March 12, 2019
2:15 PM - 3:45 PM
Session Type: Workshop

Is stress a factor in your organization? Have you noticed burnout in yourself, coworkers, or management? Come join us in exploring how stress and exposure to trauma can change our brain structure and our ability to cope throughout our career in criminal justice. Fortunately, we have one unsuspected superhero looming in the shadows waiting to be revealed: the peer support team. Research has shown having a peer support team can provide support within a unique culture, normalize the stress response, decrease stigma while mitigating long-term consequences of continuous exposure to trauma, and increase organizational resiliency. You will learn briefly how stress impacts our brain, what peer support is, what research says, and how to develop your own peer support team in order to unleash Captain Resiliency within your agency. Kapow!
