Rethinking Community Supervision--How Do We Change Behavior?

SESSION INFO

Monday, March 11, 2019
4:15 pm - 5:45 pm
Session Type: Workshop

What is the purpose of community supervision? To reduce recidivism? To monitor and report violations? Both? These questions have been the subject of discussion and debate for years. A related question is how we might decide to structure our agencies based on which purpose we wanted to accomplish. If community supervision were to be redesigned specifically for changing behavior, how would it look? This workshop explores exactly that—how to develop a system that is designed from the very beginning to change behavior. Participants will be guided through a series of exercises and discussions to explore how community corrections could be redesigned to better reduce recidivism and improve outcomes.
