Defensive Tactics for Non-Badged Staff

Non-badged staff who have regular contact and interaction with probationers and other members of the community can benefit from instruction in defensive tactics. However, unlike their badged coworkers, they may not receive a significant amount of training in this area. This course is designed to address their needs. The primary objective of the course is to provide basic defensive techniques that staff can utilize to defend themselves--which includes learning how to disengage from a situation. In particular, the instructors will teach verbal de-escalation skills that staff can use to effectively resolve or disengage from a confrontation. Mastery of the basic defensive skills taught in this workshop is definitely worthwhile.
