From Detention to a Legacy

SESSION INFO

Wednesday, March 13, 2019
10:00 am - 10:45 am
Session Type: Workshop

We will discuss how we took existing infrastructure and resources to change juvenile justice programs from detaining juveniles to giving them a safe environment that encourages prosocial activities and positive change. We have done this by partnering with our education systems, community partners, law enforcement, and the courts. Our staff has been a major resource in both labor and development of programs. The Legacy Teen Center gives our teens an opportunity to expand their horizons. In Apache County the Juvenile Justice Team has gone from passive engagement to proactive engagement with our youth with a belief that we will reduce the number of families negatively affected by the criminal justice system. We also believe that we can improve the lives and legacies of these youth by giving them a place to safely engage with other youth and mentors.
