Indicators of Elder Abuse: Distance Learning Project As community corrections agencies face expanding expectations and stagnant or decreasing funding, opportunities to send personnel to classroom training programs are diminishing. The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) has awarded a cooperative agreement to the American Probation and Parole Association to utilize distance learning technologies to train community corrections professionals more widely about elder abuse. The curriculum, “Identifying and Responding to Elder Abuse: The Vital Role of Community Corrections Professionals,” originally developed under a previous OVC-funded project by APPA in collaboration with Justice Solutions and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging, has been reconfigured for distance learning delivery in a series of four audio teleconferences/webcasts. This format will significantly increase the exposure of community corrections professionals to elder abuse issues and help them to respond appropriately to offenders and victims with whom they interact. >> Read the overall goals and objectives of the curriculum <<
