Community Corrections’ Response to
Pandemic Flu and Other Crises

The Bureau of Justice Assistance recently awarded an 18-month cooperative agreement to the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) to provide guidance to community corrections agencies in formulating strategic plans and protocols for responding to pandemic flu and other crises. To accomplish this goal, APPA will collaborate with the Association of State Correctional Administrators (ASCA) and a working group of community corrections policymakers and practitioners as well as consultants with expertise in relevant fields. The working group will assist with identifying the issues and strategies that are central to effectively responding in crisis situations. In addition, pertinent information and materials will be gathered from existing literature and protocols, and from the respective constituencies of APPA and ASCA. With continuing input from ASCA and the working group, guidelines and recommendations will be developed and disseminated to the field.
