Sex Offender Community Based
Supervision An increasing number of convicted sex offenders are sentenced to community supervision. The potential public safety risk these offenders pose requires that community corrections professionals become well equipped to perform their supervisory tasks. Therefore, supervision officers should receive training on a variety of important issues related to sex offenders including risk assessment, technological tools, and case management strategies. The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) has recently been awarded a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance to develop a training curriculum on sex offender supervision based on research findings and promising practices identified by community corrections staff in the field. The goals of the project include gathering information related to research and supervision practices for sex offenders, developing a curriculum, and disseminating information about evidence-based practices for sex offender supervision. To accomplish these goals, the project will distribute a request for information, collect research literature, and gather existing curricula. These sources will inform curriculum development and the training will be pilot tested. APPA also will disseminate information about the curriculum and sex offender supervision through articles, publications, and workshops. For more information, please contact: |
