Function:
The work of this committee focuses on methods and strategies for becoming more responsive
to the health and safety needs of probation and parole professionals. Significant health
issues within the community corrections offender population include AIDS/HIV infection,
tuberculosis and hepatitis. Safety issues for officers include decisions surrounding the
decision to arm or not arm officers, defensive weapons such as stun guns and mace, and an
increasingly violent population.
