Breaking Generational Chains: The Hidden Impact of ACEs on Black Fathers in Community Corrections
SESSION INFO
Tuesday, August 26, 2025
3:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Session Type: Workshop
This session explores the intersection of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), racial trauma, and justice system involvement, with a focus on Black fathers under community supervision. Participants will examine how intergenerational trauma, systemic disparities, and unresolved ACEs contribute to behavioral challenges, recidivism, and barriers to successful reentry. Drawing from current research, culturally responsive practices, and trauma-informed care principles, this session offers practical strategies for identifying ACE-related risk factors and supporting healing and stability. Participants will gain tools to strengthen engagement, build protective factors, and promote resilience in supervision and case planning. Designed for probation, parole, and pretrial professionals, this workshop encourages reflective practice and collaborative action to better serve Black fathers navigating both fatherhood and supervision.
