This workshop is specifically designed to provide attendees with knowledge about the impact that stress can have on them and to describe ways to reduce the adverse effects of secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue commonly experienced by Juvenile Justice practitioners. The goal of the workshop is to increase their awareness of healthy self-care techniques that will enhance their overall wellness and sense of well-being, and improve their understanding of personal resilience.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Preston L Gainey
Public Safety Training Instructor, GA Department of Juvenile Justice Office of Training
Dr. Preston Gainey is a respected Public Safety Training Instructor for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice. Being certified as a Senior Training Instructor by the State of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council, and a Master Resiliency Instructor, he facilitates effective basic and specialized training programs in support of the agency's mission, effectively enhancing the safety, security, and skills of his DJJ colleagues, partners, and the youth that they serve. Dr. Gainey holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master's in Counseling, and a Doctorate in Education Leadership. He was involved in three research projects that were related to character education, at-risk youth behavior, prevention, and remediation. His knowledge of helping members of our society achieve a healthy, productive, and well-balanced life has been applied in various communities across the nation.
