Everything, Everywhere, All at Once: Making Evidence-Based Practice Trainings Engaging to Staff

SESSION INFO

Monday, August 28, 2023
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Session Type: Workshop

Does using EBP seem like a bizarre jump to an alternate universe? If you or people that you work with are uncomfortable or not engaged in EBP culture, this workshop will review seven potential alternate strategies. The presenters successfully turned around poorly received trainings by relying on lessons learned from outside of the criminal justice field. Presenters provide examples from their experiences with Ohio Parole’s strategies to engage staff. The Seven strategies covered in this workshop include bright spots, microbursts, overwriting old habits, everyone matters, cultural influencers, dress something new in old clothes and creating coaches. Presenters examine how they applied the seven strategies to build scenario/skill-based trainings. New strategies bring new perspectives on behavior change. Attendees will have the opportunity to improve skills through practice and observation. This workshop is recommended for Criminal Justice professionals who would like to engage or get staff engaged in EBP culture.
