Research was conducted at the Sexual Predator Unit in Larned, KS concerning child victim recruitment. Offenders were interviewed concerning how and why offenders selected certain children for victimization over others as well as why offender rates fluctuated across the lire course. Researchers used Grounded Theory to analyze the information and look for commonalities amongst offenders in order to assess child victim recruitment throughout their offending trajectory. An overview of the research as well as a vignette of one offenders sexual victimization of children and adults will be discussed.

Ryan Alexander
Associate Professor, Washburn University Criminal Justice & Legal Studies


Dr. Alexander worked as a parole officer assigned to a sex offender caseload with the Kansas Department of Corrections and as a Court Services Probation and pre-trial officer for approximately 5 years before entering the academic field. Since earning a doctorate in Sociology/Criminology from Kansas State University he has conducted research and published articles relating to the community supervision of sex offenders.
