Intensive Session: CALM Training Counseling Access to Lethal Means

Reducing access to lethal means, such as firearms and medication, can determine whether a person at risk for suicide lives or dies. This course focuses on how to reduce access to the methods people use to kill themselves. It covers how to: (1) identify people who could benefit from lethal means counseling, (2) ask about their access to lethal methods, and (3) work with them—and their families—to reduce access. 3 CEUs will be provided for those with a mental health license.

Erin McGann
Justice Involved Veterans Coordinator, TX Veterans Commission


Erin McGann is the Justice involved Veterans Coordinator at the Veteran Mental Health Department, Texas Veterans Commission. She worked for eight years at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a Parole Officer, Life Skills teacher, HIV Coordinator, in the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments and in the Reentry Department as a supervisor in the Community Reentry program. Erin was awarded the TVC Excellence Award in 2016. She is on the Board of Directors of the American Parole and Probation Association and the Texas Reentry Advisory Council She holds an undergraduate degree in Justice and Policy Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and a Masters in Criminal Justice from Texas State in San Marcos, TX. She is the daughter of a Marine.
