Drugs, Assessments, and New Laws... What do we do now? Focus on - Supervision. This training will focus on our changing communities, Probation clients and the effect they have on Probation Officers supervision responsibilities. Discussion points will include what we know about Substance Use and what we need to know about new street drugs. The trainer will also provide case studies for discussion along with effective techniques in Assessment administration, collaborative Case Planning and warm hand off connections to community-based organizations. Data will be provided to show effective client/Probation Officer ratios, logistics to support, demographics of and drug type/count.

Michael Esparza
Special Assistant, Los Angeles County Probation


Michael Esparza, Special Assistant - Los Angeles County Probation Department. 22 years of service. During that time, he has worked in the Juvenile Halls, Probation Camps, as a School Based Probation Officer, Adult Field Probation Officer, Adult field Supervisor and Substance Use and Treatment Consultant. Is known as the departments subject matter expert in illicit drugs, drug prevention, drug treatment, drug testing as well as Assessments. Received his Master's in Organizational Management in 2007. Has trained classes in Drug awareness to other Probation departments as well as presented to community-based organizations.
