Empathic History Taking: Improving Quality of Care and Reducing Recidivism

SESSION INFO

Tuesday, August 29, 2023
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Session Type: Workshop

The audience will learn how to achieve a deep empathic history of our patients. An empathic history allows us to evaluate the architecture of our patients’ personality and emotionality. This evaluation is specific, relevant and timely and helps improve the patient’s life. It helps accurately diagnose a patient suffering from PTSD, personality disorder and substance abuse; one of the most common controversial constellations in psychiatric diagnosis. Recidivism is reduced when patients have a job and are educated. We can further improve our patients' success by providing them an understanding of their psychological and psychosocial problems. This can be applied to outpatient clinics for a specific understanding of the patient, so the patient isn’t inherited by the outpatient clinic blind and without information. This specific evaluation results in the measurable reduction of recidivism and re-entry to and from treatment centers that serve our patients.

I am a dual-board certified general and addiction psychiatrist and the medical director at RevCore Recovery Center. I completed a research fellowship in the Nucleus Accumbens & Addiction Lab at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I completed my adult psychiatry residency program at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center, with a focus on Outpatient Clinical Care and Family and Couples therapy. I then completed my Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at Mt. Sinai Hospital Center. As a controlled substance specialist, I excel in establishing diagnoses and refining medication plans to reduce side effects. My residency, fellowships and experience in practice has provided me with a wide range of experience to draw upon when treating my RevCore clients. In addition to my psychiatry work, I practice the following therapies: psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and family & couples therapy. By using customized guided meditations and EMDR in conjunction with treatment, I help my clients release any subconscious traumas or maladaptive behaviors that are affecting their personality or emotional health. If there is anything I can do to help you, please reach out to me at adatta@revcorerecovery.com (Revcore) or help@docdattamd.org (Private practice).
