Reimagining Community Corrections

SESSION INFO

Monday, February 13, 2023
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
Session Type: Meeting

Community corrections is at a pivotal crossroads. We know the field has worked tirelessly to utilize evidence-based practices, which has yielded mediocre results. Recently, political leaders have been bombarded with narratives that escalate concerns of rising crime rates and a failed justice system. With many "experts" dictating the best path forward, the time is now for us to reimagine community supervision before others make those decisions to/for us. Centering the experience, wisdom, and vision of your work on the front line, this collaborative session will generate an action plan for years to come. During the session, you will participate in a series of exercises that will: 1. Clarify the current community supervision environment, including barriers, and opportunities that contextualize “best practices” 2. Identify and align stakeholders, their goals and priorities 3. Consider/brainstorm novel approaches to practice, which may go beyond "expert" opinion of the best way forward. 4. Determine outcomes that are critical for us to track to monitor progress. 5. Commit to continued participation in a community of practice that acknowledges progress as a collaborative effort. Finally, we will conclude the facilitated portion of the session by identifying specific action items and time frames for next steps. Ultimately, we hope to leave having clarified what a reimagined community corrections system might look like, and what paths we can start down in order to improve our communities. While the session is open to all, seating will be limited!
