Supervision Around the World: An Overview of the SAW Project

SESSION INFO

Monday, February 27, 2023
2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
Session Type: Workshop

When offering community supervision, capacity is built by understanding what types of programs and services enhance client opportunities for success. This is true regardless of location or culture or population. However, there is currently no database or single point of reference that provides examples of working successful models. The Supervision Around the World (SAW) Project (www.SAWProject.org) is tackling that endeavor by charting global supervision practices. We will identify which of 195 countries offer community-based supervision services, provide examples of current practices, build relationships with key administrators, and create an interactive internet repository for gleaned program information. SAW Project objectives include learning how different types of supervision programs are built, operated, and measured all over the world, while creating valuable relationships. Sharing best practices leads to improved outcomes and results in enhanced public safety. There is no need to continue recreating this wheel. Resources can instead be used to support collaborative efforts focused on expanded startups, enhanced programming, and more successful outcomes. This workshop will offer the history and current findings of the SAW Project, information will be shared about unique programming models from around the world, and we’ll also provide demonstrations of key website components.
