Probation and Parole officers face increasing threats interacting with defendants/offenders, their family and friends. Officers are better prepared for acts of intimidation and verbal and physical threats during home contacts; however, there is less attention to detail in the work environment. This workshop will examine the importance of staying focused in the office, the courtroom and surrounding areas. The attendees will learn the concept of situational awareness; understand threat recognition; and protection measures. The workshop will provide tools to avoid dangerous situations and maintain safety.

Senior US Pretrial Services Officer, US Pretrial Services - EDMO


Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Illinois State University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lindenwood University. I have been a U.S. Pretrial Services Officer for 11 years in the Eastern District of Missouri. I am currently a Location Monitoring Specialist, supervising those court ordered to electronic location monitoring via curfew, radio frequency, and GPS tracking. I am a certified defensive tactics instructor and am a co-instructor for the office defensive tactics and simmunitions training programs. During my tenure as a pretrial officer, I have served as an Adjunct Officer Safety Instructor at the National Training Academy in Charleston, SC for 5 years. In addition, I have been an adjunct lecturer for the Criminal Justice Department at Lindenwood University for 1 year teaching Juvenile Justice and Criminal Procedure courses. Prior to my employment as a U.S. Pretrial Services Officer, I was employed as a St. Clair County (IL) Juvenile Probation Officer and Supervisor at the St. Louis City Family Court-Juvenile Detention. Lastly, I am a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and help train teammates under the tutelage of my black belt professor.
