APA Training Initiatives: A New Approach to Cultural Diversity

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction recognized a need for new and improved ways of training Cultural Diversity to expand the awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of all individuals and groups. Several new trainings were developed by creating safe spaces where common ground can be established and built upon. This session will focus on the development and implementation of Cross-Cultural Competency, and the LGBTQI workgroup with an overview of each.

SESSION PRESENTERS

Suzanne Brooks
Parole Program Administrator, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Suzanne Brooks graduated from Cleveland State University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Suzanne began working with juveniles with behavioral issues including juveniles involved in the criminal justice system. In 2003, Suzanne accepted a Parole Officer position with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. In 2011, Suzanne accepted the position of Justice Reinvestment Officer, and in July 2014, Suzanne was promoted to the position of Deputy Superintendent of the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Suzanne also serves as the Interstate Compact Deputy Compact Administrator for the State of Ohio. Suzanne serves on the Executive Committee and the Compliance Committee for the Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision. Additionally, she was appointed Chair of the Deputy Compact Administrator Liaison Committee in 2021.


Amy Studebaker
Parole Program Specialist, OH Department of Rehabilitation and Correction


Amy Studebaker began working for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in 1996 as a Parole Officer. She is currently a Quality Assurance Analyst in the Division of Parole and Community Services and is responsible for continuous quality improvement efforts regarding the Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS) and Evidenced Based Practices. Amy has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Kentucky. She is a certified trainer of several cognitive behavioral intervention programs.
