Women, The Final Frontier These are the Voyages of the State of Oregon... Let's Talk About How You Can Select, Train and Implement Gender Informed Strategies That Work For Your Jurisdiction

SESSION INFO

Tuesday, January 7, 2020
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Session Type: Workshop

Women are the fastest growing segment of community corrections population and the old adage that “Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars” leaves a lot of territory undiscovered. Historically, community corrections have treated female offenders using the same strategies and methods as the male population. Today, we know that there are effective strategies for working with women. This interactive workshop will explore the importance and utility of training staff to use gender specific risk assessments, case management strategies, and interventions in a community corrections setting. Participants will hear about Oregon’s investment in achieving the use of Women’s Risk Needs Assessment (WRNA), specific case management strategies like Pathways or CR2 (Creating Regulation & Resilience), and interventions like Moving On. Participants will be given the opportunity to measure their own organizations usage of gender responsive strategies and will leave with an outline for future implementation.
