APPA invites you to visit the John Augustus Room. Take a break and watch the 1955 movie, Sentence Deferred, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Edgar Buchanan, based on the true story of John Augustus. Among the vibrant history of Boston is a little-known fact – the “Father of Probation,” John Augustus called it home. He campaigned for more lenient sentences for persons convicted of crimes. His work led to an 18-year career as America’s first probation officer. Stop by the Republic Foyer to view more about John Augustus. And while there, visit the Community Corrections Reform Corner and offer recommendations for improvements to the juvenile and adult systems and APPA Avenue to share ideas to enhance your membership experience.
