Plenary: Significant Drug Threats to the United States and their Impact on Nebraska: How DEA is Combatting Criminal Drug Trafficking Networks

Join Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Omaha Division Special Agent in Charge Justin King as he provides an overview of the latest drug threats facing the country, with an emphasis on what’s being seen in Nebraska. King will discuss the methods used by drug trafficking networks to move illicit drugs into and across the country while both growing a consumer base and aiding in a nation-high overdose death record.

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Justin C. King leads the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Omaha Field Division, overseeing daily operations of 11 offices throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and eight counties along the western border of Illinois and Wisconsin. Mr. King began his career with the DEA in September 2002 and was assigned to the Laredo District Office. In 2006, Mr. King was selected for DEA’s Foreign-Deployed Advisory Support Team (FAST) where he served from January 2007 to August 2009. As a member of FAST, he participated in numerous counter-narcotics operations during three deployments to Afghanistan and one deployment to Central America. Additionally, he deployed to Kyrgyzstan on two occasions, providing investigative and tactical training to narcotics interdiction officers. In August 2009, Mr. King was transferred to the Oklahoma City District Office, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. While there, he conducted numerous complex conspiracy investigations targeting drug trafficking organizations who were primarily distributing methamphetamine and heroin in central Oklahoma. From August 2011 to July 2014, he served as Group Supervisor of the HIDTA Task Force. Mr. King returned to the FAST program in August 2014, as a Team Leader and guided his team on the final DEA FAST deployment to Afghanistan. He also supervised his team during deployments to Ukraine and Paraguay where they provided tactical and investigative training to law enforcement officers. Mr. King was promoted to FAST Section Chief in January 2017. In his new role, he was responsible for the enforcement and training deployments of four FAST teams and the Personnel Recovery Unit. Mr. King served as the Executive Assistant to the Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Office of Training from April 2017 to January 2018. For three years, Mr. King served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Little Rock District Office. In this capacity, he was responsible for all DEA activities in the state of Arkansas and for offices in Little Rock, Fayetteville and Fort Smith. A native of Oklahoma, Mr. King received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. King is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Infantry Branch in both the enlisted and officer ranks between 1990 and 2001.
