The Male Victim Offender: Balancing Victimization and Offender Accountability

This workshop will examine the impact of victimization on male offenders of color. In addition, we will explore the continuum of oppression that will be identified by evaluating the following risk factors: Poverty, Racism/Discrimination, lack of education, intergenerational violence, police brutality and disparities in sentencing guidelines. By identifying the risks and needs of the offender, we can then begin to examine evidence-based practices proven to reduce recidivism and promote offender accountability.

SESSION PRESENTERS
Christine A Barron
Intergovernmental and Community Affairs Specialist, CSOSA
Christine Barron received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Messiah College in 2005. From 2 years thereafter, Ms. Barron also served as an Intern Officer for Social Services for the District of Columbia Superior Court, specializing supervision with juvenile female offenders. Since 2010, she has worked as a Community Supervision Officer (CSO), Domestic Violence group facilitator, and now as the Intergovernmental and Community Affairs Specialist for CSOSA.
Marc Countiss a Community Supervision Officer assigned to the Behavioral Intervention Division (BID) Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) for CSOSA. Marc has over twelve years of experience in the field of Domestic Violence. Also, he has a previous background in the areas of mental health and substance abuse. He also participated in the development of a new DVIP curriculum as well as made appearances on local radio broadcast stations including WHUR.
Lorraine Smith
CSO, CSOSA
Ms. Lorraine R. Smith began her career as a Community Supervision Officer (CSO) for CSOSA in September 1999. She worked in the general and specialty units for half of her career before joining the DVIP team in July 2009. She has provided training within and outside of CSOSA to stakeholders both locally and nationally on the topic of Domestic Violence.
