#BeTheKoi: 3 Challenges to Achieving Personal Wellness in the Workplace

SESSION INFO

Tuesday, January 7, 2020
8:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Session Type: Workshop

Workers in the criminal justice system are faced with exposure to suffering and many perceived losses, to both the people they serve and often their colleagues. Research shows that prolonged exposure to negative experiences can be one of the leading causes that exacerbates stress, increases burnout, and escalates staff turnover. In this session, through the use of humor, concepts of Positive Psychology, and audience engagement, we will uncover powerful opportunities at our fingertips each day that go forgotten when we’re living in a state of stress. Participants will gain an awareness of the power they hold to adjust the lens and focus on positivity to mitigate the experience of vicarious trauma.
