Deniers and Non-Identifiers: Using a Therapeutic Approach to Provide Treatment to Sex Offenders who Deny their Role in their Offense

As providers of sex offender treatment, it is essential to consider working with not only those who openly admit to their sexual offending but also those individuals who adamantly deny having committed the sex crime. While working with these individuals in treatment, we question what methods are most effective, what works, and what our treatment outcomes should be. In utilizing therapeutic approaches that work with a curriculum, are we being effective in preventing new sexual offenses with this group of individuals that continue to justify and minimize their criminal behaviors? Are we effectively approaching and addressing sexual abuse prevention? You will receive an opportunity to learn our strategies and techniques for working with people who deny their offense. We will provide information regarding the curriculum we use and the risk factors for reoffending. This will allow learning what risk factors to look out for and how to address them when they occur.

Robyn Moore

Robyn Moore is the Clinical Supervisor of the Sex Offender Treatment Program at Revcore Recovery Center. She received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida in 2014, double majoring in Psychology and Criminology. She received her Master's degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. During grad school, she was a research assistant for the Jury Research Lab and co-managed multiple research projects. She helped with data entry for different research projects for the Sex Offender Lab. She completed her internship at Queens Counseling for Change and worked with individuals that were either charged or convicted of a sex offense(s). After graduating with her Master’s in 2017, she began her career working with RevCore.
Justyna Rzewinski
LCSW, Revcore
Justyna Rzewinski, LCSW, is the Clinical Director of RevCore, Recovery Center. She received her bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology and a master’s degree in social work from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. She is also a Ph.D. student at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. She specializes in sex offender treatment and is an adjunct professor at Yeshiva University and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She has taught forensic social work, psychosocial pathology, forensic psychology, human sexuality, and field instruction courses. Her research interests are policy issues impacting justice-involved individuals, precisely sex offender policies.
