Call for Nominations

The dedication and impact of community corrections professionals deserves recognition. To honor outstanding individuals in our field, APPA presents several prestigious awards each year. The three awards that will be presented at APPA’s 47th Annual Training Institute in August 2022 are:

Nominations for these awards are due by June 30, 2022, and must be submitted online via the link below. No other submission methods are accepted.

Carmen Rodriguez MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The voice of APPA is only as strong as our members. The Carmen Rodriguez Member of the Year Award honors the year’s greatest individual contribution to our organization. This award recognizes an APPA member who has shown incredible energy and dedication in support of organized community corrections and the American Probation and Parole Association as a whole.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Nominee must be a member of APPA for at least one year.
  • Written testimony providing examples of the contributions made by the nominee during the period of summer 2021 – summer 2022 must be included.
  • A testimonial from a supporter of the nominee discussing their contributions is encouraged. This may come from another in the same profession, treatment services, law enforcement, victims, clients or a member of the community, as appropriate.

SCOTIA KNOUFF LINE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD

This award is the most prestigious practitioner recognition APPA offers for exemplary line staff to be recognized. Highly competitive each year, this award honors an active probation, parole or community corrections officer who has performed their duties in an outstanding manner and/or made significant contributions to the probation, parole or community corrections profession at the local, regional or national level.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Written testimony providing examples of the contributions made by the nominee during the period of summer 2021 – summer 2022 must be included.
  • A testimonial from a supporter of the nominee discussing their contributions is encouraged. This may come from another in the same profession, treatment services, law enforcement, victims, clients or a member of the community, as appropriate.

WALTER DUNBAR MEMORIAL AWARD

This award recognizes significant contributions to the fields of probation and/or parole by a practicing or retired practitioner. The Walter Dunbar Memorial Award is presented in honor of one of APPA’s most distinguished colleagues, the late Walter Dunbar. The recipient should have a national presence or influence and provide significant contributions to the mission of community corrections and APPA.

Nomination Criteria:

  • Written testimony with examples of the contributions made by the nominee must be included.
  • A testimonial from a supporter of the nominee discussing their contributions is encouraged. This may come from another in the same profession, treatment services, law enforcement, victims, clients or a member of the community, as appropriate.
