Please join us as the APPA will be offering a tour of the Los Angeles County Probation Department’s Campus Vernon Kilpatrick. In the hills above Malibu, a juvenile probation camp has been reimagined as a cutting-edge campus for residential treatment. Launched at Campus Kilpatrick in 2017, the LA Model is a new approach to juvenile justice, which focuses on positive youth development through relationships and skill building in a small group therapeutic environment. Campus Kilpatrick is the Department’s flagship facility, a state-of-the-art campus built with a focus on wellness, trauma responsive strategies, and an evidence-based cognitive behavior program. The tour will travel the scenic route on the Pacific Coast Highway and up the Malibu hills through the vista points, culminating with a tour inside the facility which will include the campus’ cottages, school, gymnasium, common area, dining hall, culinary arts kitchen, and more. Please reserve your seat on the bus tour during registration as space will be limited. The tour will take place on Monday, February 27, 2023, from 12:30pm-3:30pm. APPA’s no refund policy cut-off date is January 23, 2023. While there are valid reasons an individual cannot attend the training institute after registering, especially during the pandemic, unfortunately, the association must hold firm to this policy. APPA is bound by contractual obligations to the meeting venue to cover costs and/or penalties.
APPA values all members and stakeholders. If an individual is unable to attend the in-person training institute, regardless of the reason, APPA will transfer (substitute) registration to another individual from the same agency. Written requests must be sent to Kimberly Mills.
Thanks for your ongoing support of the association, and more importantly, for your belief in professional development and networking.
