The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) invites female community corrections professionals to be part of an inspiring and empowering experience at the 5th Annual Women’s Symposium. This symposium is designed for women who dedicate themselves daily to supporting others while navigating the demands of high-pressure careers. Through a series of empowering and reflective sessions, participants will explore how authenticity, balance, resilience, and self-worth directly influence their leadership and overall well-being. The symposium creates space for honest conversations about burnout, workplace challenges, personal fulfillment, and the importance of prioritizing mental, emotional, and professional wellness without guilt.

The symposium also celebrates the strength and confidence women already possess. Workshops will challenge attendees to embrace their lived experiences as sources of power, recognize the value of their unique leadership styles, and honor the resilience that has carried them through difficult seasons. More than a professional development event, this symposium is a transformative experience focused on empowerment, self-recognition, authentic leadership, and the lasting impact women create within their workplaces, families, and communities.

Space is limited, so register now to join a powerful network of career-driven women, engage in meaningful presentations, and gain valuable insights on expanding your professional network, strengthening communication skills so your voice is heard and respected, mapping out career mobility, and developing a personalized leadership action plan. Attend the symposium dressed in PURPLE (optional) - a symbol of wisdom, power, creativity, and spirituality. Come to the symposium to engage in introspection; leave reinvigorated, inspired, and equipped with strategies to pursue your goals and embrace the limitless possibilities ahead.

SESSIONS

The Empowerment Equation: Women + Balance = IMPACT

This session explores the powerful formula behind how women rise, lead, and transform the spaces they occupy. This session breaks down the interconnected forces that shape women’s success—personal balance, professional influence, and the courage to lead with authenticity. Through real stories, practical strategies, and bold insights, we’ll examine how women set boundaries around their time, amplify their voice, and create meaningful impact without sacrificing their well being. This is a conversation about alignment, agency, and the intentional choices that allow women not just to succeed, but to thrive.

Living in the Now

In professions where strength, professionalism, and constant problem-solving are expected every day, many women find themselves surviving rather than fully living. Living in the Now encourages participants to pause and honestly examine how work, personal goals, and overall well-being are balancing out in their lives. For many women working in community corrections, life can become an ongoing cycle of managing crises, supporting others, meeting expectations, and postponing personal fulfillment for “someday.”

This workshop explores the hidden costs of overinvesting in work, including burnout, emotional exhaustion, reduced creativity, and the gradual loss of joy that can occur when survival mode becomes routine. The workshop also acknowledges workplace experiences many women quietly navigate every day, including microaggressions, being overlooked for advancement opportunities, and the pressure to constantly prove their value while maintaining professionalism in demanding environments.

At the center of this workshop is the understanding that rest is not a luxury, it is necessary for resilience, clarity, and long-term well-being. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on the belief that personal happiness, healing, peace, and meaningful life experiences must wait until careers slow down or responsibilities lessen.

Through reflection, discussion, and relatable real-life experiences, participants will be challenged to consider important questions: How are you living in the now? And what parts of your life are you continuing to postpone? Participants will leave feeling encouraged, validated, and better equipped to pursue personal fulfillment without guilt while continuing to thrive professionally, personally, and emotionally.

Know Your Worth

This session is a reflective and empowering workshop that explores how deeply personal identity and self-worth can become tied to employment and what can be lost when that connection goes unexamined. Many women define themselves by their roles at work or in their families, often placing their own passions, interests, and sense of self on hold. This session challenges participants to stop delaying the “you” (the person beyond the titles, responsibilities, and expectations) and to reconnect with who they are at their core.

Through guided discussion, attendees will explore how life roles can sometimes overshadow personal identity. The workshop encourages participants to rediscover what brings them joy and meaning. By the end of the session, participants will leave with a renewed sense of self, a clearer understanding of their inherent worth, and tangible steps to begin living more fully as who they are—not just what they do.

THE SECRET SAUCE: Effective Leadership Skills for Women

This session is an empowering and introspective workshop designed to help women uncover and fully own what makes their leadership unique. At its core is the concept of your “signature sauce”—the powerful combination of your lived experiences, perspectives, strengths, and values that shape how you lead. Rather than minimizing or overlooking parts of your journey, this session encourages you to embrace the totality of who you are and recognize how each experience contributes to your voice, presence, and impact.

Participants will go beyond surface-level definitions of leadership to explore a deeper question: Who are you at your core, and what truly drives you? This workshop positions leadership not just as a role, but as an expression of one’s essence, instincts, and inspirations. Attendees will also identify their key strengths and learn how to intentionally focus their energy in the workplace so they become known for what they do best. By the end of the session, participants will gain clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of direction in how they show up and lead with authenticity and purpose.

I Celebrate Me

Inspired by the powerful themes of resilience, survival, healing, and self-recognition found in the song I Celebrate Me, this transformational workshop invites women to pause, reflect, and honor the journeys they have survived.

This interactive and affirming experience creates a safe and empowering space for participants to examine the defining moments of their lives: the battles no one saw, the sacrifices they made, the challenges they overcame, and the courage they demonstrated even when they felt unseen or unsupported. Through guided reflection, group dialogue, and personal affirmations, participants will reconnect with their inner resilience and recognize the woman they have become through every scar, setback, transition, and triumph.

The workshop emphasizes the importance of self-acknowledgement—learning to celebrate yourself even when applause does not come from others. Participants will explore how self-validation, positive affirmation, and intentional self-celebration strengthen confidence, emotional wellness, leadership, and personal growth. Women will leave encouraged to stop minimizing their survival, honor their progress, and embrace the truth that making it through difficult seasons is itself a powerful achievement. At its core, “I Celebrate Me” is more than a workshop—it is a declaration. A reminder that every woman deserves to recognize her own strength, honor her own story, and celebrate herself for making it through what was meant to break her.
