APPA Board Governance: Empowering Community Leadership
At the helm of the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) is a dedicated board committed to serving the community's interests and the responsibly stewarding of APPA's assets. Legally and ethically bound to represent the community, board members operate collectively, making decisions as a unified force rather than as individuals.
This board is a team of owners, working voluntarily and "out of title" to ensure APPA's success. While passion fuels their commitment, the board recognizes the importance of channeling it effectively to prevent obstruction during deliberations.
The Board of Directors preserves the dignity of its governance role. Members receive reports and information from the executive director who is responsible for leading operations and engaging in staff work.
In essence, the Board embodies the definition of governance, an organized group with collective authority, steering the institution and fostering its growth while respecting the distinct roles of staff. This commitment to effective governance ensures that APPA continues to thrive as a leading force in community corrections.
