American Probation and Parole Association Set To Host Discussion on the Closing of Rikers Island

The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) will hold its 42nd Annual Training Institute at the Marriott Marquis‐Times Square, August 27‐30 with over 100 engaging sessions. Criminal justice leaders and advocates are set to explore the findings of the Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform recommendations on closing Rikers Island and replacing it with several smaller facilities across New York City, supervised release of some of the detainees, and a bail system overhaul.
