Adopting and Promoting the Impaired Driving Assessment
Contracting Agency: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

In 2013, APPA completed a five-year project in the development of the Impaired Driving Assessment (IDA), which is a screening tool designed to be used at the frontend of the justice system with impaired-driving offenders to provide preliminary estimates around risk to reoffend, service needs, and responses to interventions. APPA will adopt and promote the use of the IDA in this project by accomplishing three main deliverables: develop a computerized version of the IDA to automate the tool; finalize an online training course on using the IDA; and market the IDA for widespread public use, including among criminal justice settings other than probation.
