The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) produces a quarterly periodical entitled Perspectives. There are four issues published each year, usually one issue per quarter . Each issue of Perspectives includes articles in the area of community corrections that relate to a theme, special essays, departmental articles, and committee updates.
Though APPA’s membership representation consists primarily of pretrial, probation, and parole departments in the United States, it also possesses a growing international presence.
For any questions about Perspectives, please contact the Editorial Committee Co-Chairs Kim Kras and Katie Meyer.

Call for Articles
APPA encourages article submissions from practitioners and/or academics, among others, by solo or multiple authors. Papers should center on issues related to community corrections and associated topics and cater to APPA’s membership.
The following types of articles we are looking for include:
● Traditional review articles– articles that provide a comprehensive, critical, and/or objective overview of a particular topic. Examples: literature review, scoping review, systematic review, historical review, etc.
● Research articles– articles that offer readers information about a research study conducted by the authors. This can include exploration, evaluation, replication, implementation, or other methodologies that contribute to generating new knowledge, or using existing knowledge to derive fresh concepts, methodologies, or understandings of community corrections topics.
● Program, practice, or policy concept articles– comprehensive, detailed examination of a program, practice, policy, or innovative concept, covering any phase of its lifecycle: preparation/pre-implementation, implementation, post-implementation, or sustainability.
Inclusive Authorship: Perspectives seeks articles from all disciplines and types of authors. To make the Perspectives journal a more inclusive outlet, the Perspectives Editorial Committee is here to help at any stage of the writing and preparation process. If you need support in preparing an article for submission, please contact the Co-Chairs for more information.

Submission Guidelines & Review Process
Please follow the following guidelines for Perspectives article submissions:
● Written in English, using APA 7th edition formatting, particularly references and in-text citations)
● Be no more than 5,000 words (excluding title, author bios, endnotes, appendices, tables, charts, figures, images, graphs, diagrams, etc…)
● Written single-spaced, 12-point, Times New Roman font
● Must have the title and author(s) names as they’d like to be printed at the top of the first page of the article
● Provide a written 100-word bio for each author
● Provide tables, figures, charts, images, graphs, diagrams, etc. in a separate document from the paper
● An abstract is not required
● Submitted in Microsoft Word format
Note: Personal experiences, anecdotes, or stories are welcome in your article; however, the paper must also be supported through other sources of information (e.g., peer-reviewed articles, government reports, and research institutes, among others) related to the paper's topic and concept. Please refrain from submitting Op-Eds, blogs, or personal experience/anecdotal-only papers.
Review Process: Perspectives conducts a peer-review process for article submissions (not blind). Articles submitted to Perspectives will be reviewed by the Editors to determine fitness for subsequent review and potential publication in the journal. If the article is deemed fit for review, the Editors will send the article to Editorial Committee members for review. Feedback will be provided back to authors by the Editors and Committee members for resubmission, if requested. Sometimes, articles may not move forward in the review process if they require substantial revisions or are not an appropriate topic for the journal.
